Shums Alikhan

Shums Alikhan is a Project Manager at Discern Health. Shums works with clients across the health care industry, including life sciences companies, nonprofit organizations, health plans, and both federal and state agencies. She has experience with policy analysis, mixed methods research, as well as developing evidence-based solutions to address a range of health policy issues. Shums’ recent work at Discern includes projects related to value-based care, quality measures, and health equity.

Before joining Discern, Shums worked in market access and reimbursement consulting, where she assisted a variety of life science companies on developing successful strategic market access plans and providing support around drug pricing. She also served as a senior policy analyst at the National Governors Association where she worked with governors and other state officials and provided subject matter expertise to support policy priorities around behavioral health and infectious diseases. Previously, she was a consultant at IBM Watson Health, supporting government contracts such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Innovation Accelerator Program. Shums received her MPH from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and her BS in Health Science at Boston University.
