Discern and Partners Publish Patient-Reported Measures Call to Action for Payers
December 2020
Payers play a critical role in promoting high-value patient care, and patient-reported measures (PRMs) and performance measures (PR-PMs) are key to bringing patient voices into value-based care and payment. Discern Health and the National Pharmaceutical Council (NPC) published a call to action for payers in a viewpoint article in the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy. “Improving Patient-Reported Measures in Oncology: A Payer Call to Action,” which was co-authored by Drs. Mark McClellan and Ethan Basch, outlines the current state of PRMs and PR-PMs in oncology, describes barriers to implementation, and identifies actionable recommendations for public and private payers to accelerate the appropriate use of these measures in oncology value-based payment programs.
This research was also featured in an October 21 presentation at the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy Nexus 2020 Virtual meeting. Discern Vice President Theresa Schmidt moderated a panel exploring the role of PRMs in value-based contracting, challenges to pharmacy implementation, and how health plans can help drive solutions.
