Harnessing the stories, ideas, and innovations of patient and caregiver partners is the key to making measurement meaningful. With support from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) and National Quality Forum (NQF), Patient Family Centered Care Partners (PFCCpartners) and Discern Health facilitated the 2020 Patient Family Advisor (PFA) Summit on Measure Development to help advance patient/family partnerships in health care measurement activities.
Discern and PFCCpartners synthesized the qualitative data gathered at the summit and developed an action plan to advance priorities that strengthen partnerships and address barriers to valuable engagement. Recommendations include:
- Establishing a mentorship and coaching program,
- Partnering with payers and foundations funding measure development,
- Insisting on diversity and the inclusion of historically underrepresented populations, and
- Developing guidance on compensation for PFA contributions to measure development.
